The triathlon is the most challenging experience; however, it is really not that hard. If you can doggy paddle, ride a bike, and jog, you have what it takes to complete a triathlon. Triathlons come in various lengths starting with your basic short sprint to the full Triathlon. Short sprints start with a 250 meter (5 lengths) swim, 12.4 mile bike, and 2 mile run; the USAT standard for the sprint triathlon is 750 meter swim, 12.4 mile bike, and a 3.1 mile run. There is the olympic triathlon is a 1500 swim, 24.8 mile bike, 6.2 mile run. Half Triathlon is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run. Finally the full Triathlon is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run which is often referred to as an IRONMAN. The IRONMAN is actually a registered trademark for a brand of race.
